About Vivit & Irfan
Indonesian husband and wife @irfanihsan & @vivitkavi have called DC home for over 16 years. They started their career in the broadcasting/media industry as International broadcasters, TV hosts, and producers. Throughout their journey, they raised a family, made lifelong friendships, and maintained the dream of sharing the culture and warmth of their home country, Indonesia, with the rest of the world.
In their search of bringing 'something Indonesian' to the US, Irfan & Vivit met Aldi & Omar, the founders of the Dua Coffee brand in Indonesia. Excited to discover their dreams coincided, the four set out a path to achieve it. After a challenging two years, in September 2019, the team finally opened the doors of Dua Coffee DC to the American public.
Vivit Kavi is the Co-owner and Managing Partner of Dua Coffee DC.

Their coffee-based drinks use single-origin beans from the different islands of Indonesia. Dua Coffee DC‘s beans not only have a unique story behind them but originate from a farm that practices ecologically sustainable coffee production. Those quality beans are then made into various signature beverages from recipes created by our very own baristas. Dua Coffee DC encourages creativity and productivity within a team that humbly calls themselves the Dua Coffee DC Family.

What inspired you to start Dua Coffee DC?
The passion and detail that takes place behind an amazing cup of coffee are what got us hooked to specialty coffee in the first place. The saying ‘coffee connects people’ is the true inspiration behind what we do. It also became one of our core values, driving us to create a space that’s warm, welcoming, and feels like a second home.
Why is the work you do through your brand so important?
As one of the world's largest coffee-producing countries, Indonesia has various types of coffee with characteristics that vary region to region, particularly from Sumatra, Sulawesi, Java, Flores, Bali, and Papua. With the Dua Coffee DC brand, not only do we want to introduce diverse Indonesian coffee beans to coffee lovers in America, we also strive to provide opportunities for farmers back home to showcase their products on a global scale. Through the fair-trade system, we ensure that these farmers get rewarded for their dedication and hard work.
What is your favorite dish? Is there a story behind it?
Drink: Brown latte - It’s our house espresso mixed with Gula Aren, AKA Gula Jawa (organic coconut palm sugar from Java), topped with milk. The latte with a hint of nutty sweetness brings us the taste of home.
Food: Snowy Cheese - The savory margarine spread on thick toast topped with shredded cheese and a drizzle of sweetened condensed milk reminds us of our favorite Jakarta street food.
What does courage mean to you?
For us, courage became the recipe to survive and be kind. When Covid-19 shut the world down, it faced us with the option to ‘fight or flight.’ It was courage that drove us to choose to fight and persevere through the path of challenges during the pandemic.
Where can we expect to see you in the next few years?
More partnerships, collaborations, and popups! We are also excited to introduce more single-origin beans from the different islands of Indonesia.--
